0.1mm 304 Stainless Steel Foil — Heat Shield Skin
The skin we use on 2022+ WRX VB headers and J-pipes. Thin enough to form around a bend by hand, tough enough to survive the heat cycling that destroys foil tape and aluminium.
Use it as the inner and outer skin around a silica needle mat core for a layered heat shield.
Why 304, why 0.1 mm
304 stainless holds its structure at exhaust temperatures and doesn't scale away like mild steel or soften like aluminium. At 0.1 mm it still forms cleanly around a curve by hand, and it spot welds without burning through.
What it's for
- Outer and inner skins for layered turbo and downpipe shielding
- Wrapping over silica needle mat to hold it in place and protect it
- Reflective barriers keeping radiant heat off a fuel line, harness or master cylinder
The three-layer build
Stainless skin, silica needle mat core, stainless skin. The foil takes the abuse and reflects radiant heat; the mat helps reduce heat transfer. Joined with a spot welder, the assembly stays put through heat cycles that shake apart wraps and zip ties.
Specifications
