Heat Shield Kit — Silica Needle Mat + 304 Stainless Foil
Both halves of a real heat shield, cut to work together.
Cheap heat shielding fails because it asks one material to do two jobs badly. This is the build that holds: a 1/4" pure silica needle mat core to help reduce heat transfer, wrapped in 0.1 mm 304 stainless foil to take the abuse and reflect radiant heat.
Why the foil comes in double
A proper shield has stainless on both sides of the mat — an inner skin facing the heat source and an outer skin facing the engine bay. Every kit here includes enough foil for both skins, plus approximately 15% for cutting losses. Measure your part before choosing a size; bends, seams and overlaps affect material use.
What's included
- 1/4" pure silica needle mat, 36" wide
- 0.1 mm 304 stainless steel foil, 23.6" wide — double the mat's area
Building with it
Cut the mat to shape, sandwich it between two foil skins, and join the edges. A spot welder gives the cleanest result — the join holds, the mat stays compressed, and the layers are secured together. Safety wire or stainless zip ties will also work.
One order, matched quantities: the foil length is already sized to skin both sides of the mat, with the cutting margin counted in. Check that the selected size covers your part, including seams and overlaps. At the 120" size the kit also lands $40 under buying the mat and foil on their own.
Where this sits in the lineup
- Silica needle mat on its own — if you already have stainless.
- 0.1 mm 304 stainless foil on its own — if you already have mat.
- Ultimate Heat Wrap Bundle — this kit plus the spot welder that makes the joins clean. The welder is only sold in the Ultimate Heat Wrap Bundle.
- Don't want to build it? Send me the part. $300 flat, materials included, full three-layer wrap on a WRX header or J-pipe.
